Airbnb Tolaga Bay

There's a new Airbnb in town!
It's my beautiful property in Tolaga Bay. I couldn't think of a fun name for it, so it's simply "Haley's House". For a somewhat creative person this is the best I could think of for the time being. I'll share some det's with you about the house and the property.

Haley's House is completely off grid, I have Solar Power, Gas, Water tanks & a wastewater system. It has worked wonderfully so far, and when the rest of Tolaga Bay had power cuts through storms in winter, I had power!
This is the beauty in having solar power, and the main reason it was my first choice when designing the property. There is a backup generator for those endless days of no sunshine, because of course no system is completely perfect. Gas provides instant hot water & runs my Parmco, completely Gas oven. Rainwater is collected off the roof of the house and sheds, then stored in water tanks close by.

The house is 50m2 and has two medium sized bedrooms, there is a bedroom at either end of the house, a king bed in the slightly larger room and a queen in the other. Open plan living, dining & kitchen in the middle. With a small bathroom on the southern wall, containing a shower, vanity, toilet and shelving. This house is lovely and warm, with amazing insulation.

NEW!
There is a brand-new deck & stairs. My Mum & Paul were very kind to come and help me for a week, in that time Mitre10 delivered all my supplies for the job. Then Paul and I got to work concreting in the posts and put up the framing. Mum had loaded the van with amazing plants and cuttings for the garden, she spent her time planting them around the property or repotting them for me.

Once the framing was up, I waved them goodbye. The rest of the deck was all for me. I have very limited building experience, but I love to learn new skills and try give things a go myself. I'll admit putting the decking on took a lot longer than I thought it would, I didn't want to waste any timber so I would lay a few rows of timber out on the framing. Check the overhang wasn't too large and being wasteful then continue with squaring the ends of each board, sanding a beveled edge on the joins so you don't get splinters. Finally, once that was done, I could put in my spacers and start screwing down the deck. It was physically challenging for me, as timber likes to remind you that in was in fact once a tree... and that it is not completely straight, so I had to man handle some of it with all my body weight and or force with a bar and hammer to hold it straight, in place and also screw it down without it moving. Whilst also applying downward pressure on the impact gun, so I didn't bur the screws. I'm sure this becomes second nature for builders, but it certainly wasn't for me. RESPECT! - for all the builders out there.

So, the deck is 45m2, only 5m2 smaller than the house and it's fabulous!
I will definitely put a veranda over the deck and perhaps an extra room out there. It could be used as a sleep out, office or storage. I'd also put a laundry room cupboard out there, because there isn't one in the house.
