 New Zealand Grown Saffron

Can Achieve Crocin Levels Above 200

Over the centuries saffron has been used for medicinal purposes to aid and cure a variety of ailments.

In more recent years Saffron has been used in many trials to help  Age-related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) and had great results.

Saffron's Active Compounds

Saffron stigmas contain more than 150 volatile and aromatic compounds. Saffron’s high content of free-radical fighting antioxidant carotenoids, are the main contributors that support eye health.

  • Alpha-carotene

  • Beta-carotene

  • Antioxidants: crocins (alpha-crocin and picrocrocin)

  • Safranal (a volatile oil) comprises 60-70% of the essential oil in Saffron

Saffron is also rich in vitamins and minerals, including vitamin A, riboflavin, folic acid, niacin, vitamin C, magnesium, manganese, selenium, calcium, Zinc and phosphorus.

 3 ways Saffron Helps

 1. Saffron protects the retina against harmful Ultraviolet-blue light radiation.(UV-B) can contribute to eye damage. Saffrons high levels of carotenoid alpha-crocin works like “natural sunglasses”, the carotenoid provides a neuroprotective action for retinal cells. Saffron helps protect and prevent the breakdown of light-sensitive cells in the center of the retina.

2. Alpha-crocin has been shown to significantly increase the blood flow in the retina and choroid. Vision problems related to lack of blood flow can be helped by the Alpha-crocin found in Saffron

3. Saffrons high antioxidant, vitamin and mineral content boosts the natural defence system.

We at Ziggy Ardor have not yet started our medicinal trials and all information on this page is out sourced. I have attached a couple of the latest trials so people can come to their own conclusions about Saffron and its abilities.
