Ashwagandha

History

Ashwagandha is commonly known as Indian Ginseng or Winter Cherry. It has been used for it's therapeutic qualities since around 6,000 BC, Originating from the middle east, India and Africa.
in India it was traditionally used as a  Ayurvedic medicine . It's said that it was used for anxiety, tumors, arthritis and respiratory problems.

Multiple trials have been done on Ashwagandha for its medicinal benefits. Here is a small selection of trials done on the following topics.
 

Stress & Anxiety
(2012)
64 adults took part in a randomized double blind, placebo controlled trial, using high concentrated full spectrum ashwagandha root extract to reduce stress and anxiety.
Conclusion: "safely and effectively improves an individual's resistance towards stress and thereby improves self-assessed quality of life."

(2021)
A study was done on healthy adults for the immunomodulatory effect of ashwagandha extract, this study was a randomized double blind placebo- controlled study.
The study showed that the "extract significantly improved the immune profile of healthy subjects"  "Boosting the immune system of people at risk of infection and during widespread infections can be targeted with WS extract."

Sleep Quality
(2020)
150 healthy adults took part in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled over 6 weeks, to evaluate the effects of ashwagandha extract on sleep quality.
Results show "72% increase in self-reported sleep quality was found for the treatment group, compared with 29% in the placebo group".
